Delay to appoint substative leaders at Multimedia University causing panic

Confusion has continued to frustrate leadership at MultiMedia University (MMU), as the Ministry of Education is seeking to appoint a substantive Vice Chancellor to end the row.

As the confusion rages, we learnt that senior officers at the university and the Ministry on Wednesday held a series of meetings, as the anxiety on appointment grew.

The leadership stalemate has been rife since January after Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu appointed Prof Rosebella Maranga as the Acting Vice Chancellor for a six months period.

MMU UASU Secretary General Onesmus Mutio said the delay to appoint a Vice Chancellor at the institution has frustrated several programmes.

“It’s the high time the CS appoints a substantive VC to ensure there is normalcy at the institution,” said Mutio.

In the PSC ranking 21 candidates were interviewed by the panel, including Prof Paul Nyaga Mbatia, Prof Bernard Moirongoi, Mary Abukutsa, Francis Macharia, Prof Rosebella Maranga, and Prof Godfrey Mse among others.

The VC position was advertised to replace Prof Feustus Kaberia who retired in November last year.

Two weeks ago, UASU leadership said the delay behind the appointment of the leadership at the institutions remains unexplainable.
