Nairobi Chief Magistrate Court freed Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on a bond of Sh1 million, with an alternative bail of Sh500000 following charges of corruption.
The Anti-Corruption Chief Magistrate Charles Ondieki barred Natembeya from accessing his office for a period of two months.
Earlier, the DPP had objected to Natembeya being released on bond saying he would interfere with the witnesses.
Natembeya was released by lawyers Ndegwa Njiru,Eugene Wamalwa, George Wajackoyah.
He denied the two counts leveled against him acquired Sh1,127,900 from Mercy Chelangat, Sh2,124,668 from Emmanuel Wafula Masungo and Sh3,252,568 from Mercy Chelangat, who traded with the county government.
The Governor was also barred from traveling out of the country, unless permitted by the court and warned against discussing the case in public.
“Any breach of the set conditions shall attract attendant consequences, including cancellation of bond or bail,” the magistrate ruled.
Natembeya was earlier charged with three counts of graft, including the acquisition of public property through conflict of interest.
