Natembeya battles with corruption charges in Court

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has been charged with two counts of conflict of interest and one count of unlawful acquisition of public property. in the Milimani Chief Magistrate’s Courts.

Before Chief Magistrate Charles Ondieki, Natembeya pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

In the first count, the state alleges that between January 1, 2023 and April 30, 2025, Natembeya acquired an indirect pecuniary interest in Sh1,127,900 from Mercy Chelangat, the director of Lyma Agro Science Limited and the proprietor of Maria Stores that had traded with the county government.

The DDP has opposed his release on bond, citing he will interfere with investigations, witnesses and exhibits if released. 

The governor is presented by lawyer Ndegwa Njiru.

He was arrested in his residence in Kitale by the EACC in connection with the allegations
