Coffee market pockets Sh1.3 billion

The Nairobi Coffee Market has made Sh 1,353,426,062 which will be distributed to the farmers after the auction of  25,233 bags of coffee.

In the market, there were 16 buyers  according to the report that indicated that Ibero Kenya bought 8,676 bags, Louis Dreyfus 5,212 bags, Kenyacof 2,751 bags. Others were C.Dorman 2,650 bags, Taylor Winch 2,183 bags, Sasini 1,487 bags.

 In the market  the report states that coffee factories affiliated to Alliance Berries, Kirinyaga Slopes, and New KPCU achieved the best prices for their quality grades.

The factories that achieved the best prices for their grade AA are Thiriku coffee sold by New KPCU achieved the highest price of Sh 58,618. 

Muthua ini factory Sh52,795 per bag of grade AA through the brokerage of Alliance Berries Limited,  and  Gatura through CEBBA Sh52,795 per bag of grade  AA.

The NCE report indicates that in the auction the brokers brought 4,878 bags of grade AA and 7,436 bags of grade AB.

 Alliance Berries sold 8,770  bags  for Sh 423 million, Kirinyaga Slopes 6,521 bags for Sh 399. 2 million,New KPCU 3,146 bags  for  Sh 167. 8 million.

Others were KCCE 1,564 bags for Sh 100.6 million , CEBBA 1,194 bags  for Sh 67.7 million. 

NCE CEO Lisper Ndung’u said the auction facility has continued providing the farmers with competitive coffee prices, thus requiring production of quality grades.

“ Farmers are required to adhere to the advice from the coffee experts to help in production of the quality grades that attract the market,” said Ms Ndung’u.

She congratulated  the coffee brokers for the continued delivery of large consignment coffee in the market, as she mentioned Alliance Berries, Kirinyaga Slopes and New KPCU for their best service.

Murang’a agriculture CEC Kimani Mugo said Murang’a coffee farmers  are focused towards increased production of coffee that will attract the buyers.

“ Our focus is on production of quality coffee earning better returns for the interest of the small scale farmers in the cooperative societies,” said Mugo.
