A relief to Murang’a secondary school principals after they received a refund of Sh26,500 following the overpayment  to attend a financial management training.

The refund was ordered by the Murang’a County Director of Education Mr Phillip Wambua after the complaints were lodged , which attracted the media attention.

As the training started on Tuesday at Murang’a High School and Kamahuha Girls High Schools, majority of the heads who had remitted the money through the Murang’a Chapter of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (Kessha) had confirmed receiving the refund. The three day training ends today( Friday).

Last week, the principals from the 400 secondary schools were directed to part with  Sh34,000, that included Sh7,500 for the training, daily allowance of Sh8,000  for three days, and Sh 2,50 for snacks during the Kenya Education Management Institute (KEMI

Wambua said those who had not remitted the Sh 7,500 to the association , to make the payment through the E citizen or the KEMI’s bank accounts.

“ Everything is settled and I will ensure there is transparency to avoid the controversies,” said Wambua.

One principal recounted how the majority had been forced to pay from their pockets over the delayed remittance of the capitation.

“ Our Cry is genuine as the organisers of the training had exploited us, our unity played part  towards the refund,” said a head from Kandara sub county.
