The weekly coffee market generated Sh637.1 million on Tuesday, after the auction of 12,144 bags of coffee.
The report indicated that farmers in cooperatives and estates earned more compared to the previous year’s auction of Sh429.9 million.
In the market coffee brokered by Alliance Berries Limited, Kirinyaga Slopes, and New KPCU achieved the highest prices.
Best prices for AA brokered by the Alliance Berries Limited are Ndundu factory affiliated to Thiririka society in Kiambu achieved Sh 51,389 per bag of grade AA, Kagumo ini factory of Kamacharia society Sh51,131 per bag of grade AA and New Weithaga Sh51,002.
In the market that attracted 12 local and international buyers, factories that achieved the best prices are Karani Sh50,615,Wanjengi Sh50,356 both allied to Alliance Berries, those allied to the Kirinyaga Slopes and New KPCU are Mutitu Sh 50,873, and Mukethe Farm Sh 49,323 respectively.
In the market, 9,925 bags traded above Sh38,736 each.
Nairobi Coffee Exchange (NCE) CEO Ms Lisper Ndung’u said the eight coffee brokers delivered 7,800 bags of grade AA and AB which were more than 6,071 of last week.
She said the market pays for the best grades, thus the need for the growers in the counties to be encouraged to increase production of the quality grades.
“We salute Alliance Berries for the delivery of 5,162 bags of coffee out of which 4,122 bags were for the grade AA and AB”, said Ms Ndung’u.
Cooperative Principal Secretary Patrick Kilemi lauded the farmers for using the auction trading platform, saying the cooperatives and societies have gained alot.
The coffee auction, he said, was the most transparent system that farmers and other interested parties can follow electronically.
“ Farmers are reaping fruits from the online coffee trading system, as the Direct Settlement System (DSS) that controls the payments and has since effected transparency,” said Mr Kilemi.
In the sales, Alliance Berries sold coffee valued at Sh 282.2 million, new KPCU Sh59.3 million for the sale of 1,181 bags,
Kipkelion brokered 1,455 bags that generated Sh 75.4 million.
In the buyers category, Sasini purchased 2,775 bags for Sh151. 7 million, Taylor Winch 2598 bags that fetched Sh143.9 million, C Dorman 2,369 bags for Sh132.3 million, Ibero Kenya 2,015 bags for Sh95.4 million.
The report reflects that Global Foods and Africoff Trading each bought four bags of coffee.
