There was a showdown between two Muranga Governor aspirants during a church function in Kangema.
Muranga MP Sabina  Chege and Principal Secretary Joseph Wairagu declared their interests to take over from Governor Mwangi wa Iria who is in his second term.
During the function  presided by Mt Kenya Central ACK Bishop Dr Timothy Githere and attended by Parliament Speaker Justin Muturi where the local leaders lauded Wairagu over his efforts to distribute water.
Rwathia MCA Maina Mweri kicked off the debate when he said efforts made by Wairagu are remarkable in the village.
"We are satisfied with your efforts Mr PS when that time comes we are ready to support your bid"said Mweri.

Wairagu is popular  following his Kwaura Kwaura slogan.
Wairagu in his address said Murang’a has water projects estimated at Sh10billion.
He said his desire is to ensure all parts of Murang'a will get water.
"Kangema Constituency alone has projects worth Sh1 Billion. There are several irrigation programmes which once completed our people will benefit," said the PS.
Chege in her address said was ready to take over the county leadership from Wa Iria.
He castigated leaders who commission government projects like their own, instead crediting the same to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

"Wairagu has capacity to deal with water issues, thus the next government should get Wairagu a Cabinet Secretary position to continue with the water and irrigation programme" said Chege.
Others interested in the governorship are  former Principal Secretary Mr Irungu Nyakera, former Kigumo MP Mr Jamleck Kamau
