The Kenya Rural Roads
Authority (KERRA) has commenced the construction of Sh2 billion roads in
Nyandarua County.
This is after the project to tarmac the 44 kilometres of road was handed over to the contractor to commence work to alleviate the suffering the Nyandarua people have been going through for ages.
Ol Joro Orok constituency will benefit with 16.5 kilometres of road while the neighboring Ol Kalou constituency will get 27.5 kilometres of tarmac road.
The tarmac will traverse through Boiman - Charagita-Pasenga-Silanga-Gachwe -Kwa Mumbi, with the work expected to take 36 months.
Ol Joro Orok MP Michael Muchira said the long-awaited road does not only bring joy to the residents but will be a key infrastructure which will ease transport from the agricultural rich region.
"Once complete,
the road will open up the area that has for a long time lagged behind in
development. Our farmers will now deliver their food produce to the market with
ease" he noted.
He said that the project will go a long way in ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of fresh farm produce to the markets, with farmers enjoying better prices.
"We want the
locals to benefit by being given jobs. Let the contractor use our youths in
this project" he said.
