Murang’a MCA Stephen Habire who allegedly convened a demonstration  to block the installation of Speaker Justin Muturi as Gema spokesman has been charged with contravening Covid-19 protocols.

Habire denied the charge before Murang’a Resident Magistrate Ms Violet Ochanda who released him on a cash bail of Sh50,000 pending the hearing date on August 2.

Habire denied that on May 21, 2021 at General Ihura grounds in Murang’a town, he convened a meeting of boda boda riders contravening the Covid-19 protocols  not observing social distance.

He was represented by lawyer Mbugua Karuga who asked the court to accord his client reasonable bail terms as he was a well known person in Murang’a town.

“ My client is an MCA at the Murang’a County Assembly and not a flight risk, thus he should be accorded a bond,” said the lawyer.

Muturi was coronated a spokesman on Saturday a move that has met resistance from the local leaders among them governors, members of parliament Kikuyu Council of elders.
