Management of secondary schools have raised the need for the expanded infrastructure to accommodate students in accordance to Covid 19 protocols.

Murang’a secondary school heads said it will be an exercise in futility if the government order re-opening of the institution without the additional infrastructure.

Murang'a leaders led by Education Chief Administrative Secretary Zack Kinuthia  during an education stakeholder meeting at Murang'a High School.

MPs Sabina Chege( Murang’a), Ngugi Nduati( Gatanga), Mary Wamaua ( Maragua) and Alice Wahome ( Kandara) speaking during an education stakeholders forum  said  the schools following the outbreak of the disease  will be faced with accommodation challenges thus need for resources  for construction.

They spoke during an education meeting which was also attended by Ministry of Education Administrative Secretary Mr Zack Kinuthia and Central Regional Director of Education Ms Margaret Lesuuda.

Ms Lesuuda speaking to the media during Murang'a education stakeholders meeting at Murang'a High School.

Led by Murang’a High School Principal Mr Willy Kuria, the heads cited that large schools like Mugoiri Girls High School was among those that can only be occupied by the KCSE candidates if there will be no expansion.

“Lack of the infrastructure is a major hindrance in the secondary schools that should be addressed without delay” said Kuria.

Lesuuda said Murang’a due to lack of land, the administration of schools should consider high rise building as a solution.

“Am pleased that education stakeholders in Murang’a can come together to chart the way forward. This is a wakeup call to other counties,   as education of our children is a concern,” she said.

Kinuthia said the government will support construction of additional infrastructure in learning institutions to encourage 100 percent transition at all levels.

“In the last financial year 55 secondary school received Sh555 million  for infrastructure programme,” said the administrative secretary.
